SOLON Bilingual Prep

Philosophy

The purpose of our school is to prepare the preschool age child for a successful educational future and to expose him to the Greek language.
As a bilingual program, we strive to provide a happy, loving, and secure learning environment where the children are exposed to a balanced variety of positive experiences in both languages. This kind of a learning environment promotes social, emotional, intellectual and physical development in each child.
At Solon Bilingual Prep We Believe...

•That continuous learning should be the focus of the Solon Bilingual Prep

•In fostering joy and excitement for learning

•That successful learning experiences require careful development and implementation of curriculum, assessment and instruction

•That together – teachers, students, administrators, staff, parents and community – we can, and do, make a difference

Goals

The primary goals of Solon Bilingual Prep are:
•    To encourage social and language skill development in both languages. Especially for the Greek language our goal is to help the child imitate the sounds of the Greek language with ease and to speak with native-live pronunciation.
•    To develop literacy skills
•    To associate reading with pleasure and enjoyment as well as learning and skill development
•    To develop an understanding of the pattern of mathematics through the use of concrete materials
•    To help the child develop a positive self-image, independence
•    To help the child develop an acceptance of responsibilities, self-discipline, and self-expression
•    To help the child develop the skills of communicating, sharing, cooperating, and participating with others.
At “Solon Bilingual Prep” the program is planned, coordinated, and carried out by our qualified teaching staff. Themes are chosen each month and special activities are planned relating to the themes. Children explore the themes through centers where they can play and work. The program is designed to ease the transition from home to the school environment. Under the guidance of our staff, the children are introduced to a school setting, which fosters self-expression, recognizes their uniqueness, and gives them a sense of pride in their accomplishments.
