Father Apostolos N. Georgiafentis was born in Chicago to the Archon Protopsalti (Chief Chanter) Nicolaos and Katherine Georgiafentis. As a teenager Fr. Apostolos spent most of his time pursuing his love for Byzantine music, which he learned to love from his father. At the age of fifteen he received his first assignment as the Chanter of Holy Apostles Church in Westchester, Illinois.

After graduating from High School, Fr. Apostolos attended the University of Illinois for one year when, moved by the Holy Spirit, began his studies for the priesthood at Hellenic College in Brookline, Massachusetts, from where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986. He then continued his studies at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology from where he graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 1988. During his studies, Fr. Apostolos received advanced instruction in Byzantine Music from Professor Sava J. Sava and Fr. Nicholas Kastanas. He also tutored Byzantine Music classes for the theological students.

On January 15, 1989, Fr. Apostolos was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago at the Assumption Church in Chicago, and assigned as the associate pastor to the Holy Apostles Church in Westchester, Illinois. In June 1994 he was assigned as pastor to the parish of St. Barbara in Toms River, New Jersey. On October 7, 1996, Father Apostolos was assigned to the parish of St. Demetrios in Chicago.

Father is also a recipient of “The 2008 Most Distinguished Greek American Award in the Field of Religion” recognized by The United Hellenic Voters of America.

Father Apostolos and Presbytera Sophia have three beautiful children: Katerina, Nicholas and Anastasios.

Rev. Fr. Peter Sarolas was ordained to the Diaconate by His Eminence Metropolitan IAKOVOS of Chicago on January 1, 2007, the Feast Day of St. Basil. Fr. Peter was born in Chicago to John and Vasiliki Sarolas and grew up at St. Basil’s Greek Orthodox Church. Fr. Peter was an active altar boy, joining Fr. Chris Kerhulas on two altar boy trips in the 1980’s to the east coast to visit St. Basil's Academy in Garrison, NY and to Holy Cross Seminary in Brookline; foreshadowing his later calling. Fr. Peter attended public school and played basketball for St. Nicholas in Oak Lawn in Chicago until he matriculated at St. Rita Catholic High School.

With the Blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan IAKOVOS, he entered Hellenic College in Brookline, MA in the fall of 1987 where he graduated with Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991. He then directly entered Holy Cross Seminary and graduated in 1994 with a Masters Degree in Divinity. Following his graduation, he was taken into service by St. Basil’s Academy as the Religious Education Instructor for the 6th to 8th graders and the Student Life Coordinator.

The Metropolis of Chicago offered him the position of Registrar in 1998 and served the Holy Metropolis until his ordination to the priesthood in May of 2007. Concurrently, he has held positions at Holy Trinity in Chicago as Youth Director, St. Nicholas in Oak Lawn as Pastoral Assistant and at St. Andrews in Chicago, also as Pastoral Assistant.

Fr. Peter married Maria Karantonis, also of Chicago, in November 2005. They currently have two sons, Yianni who was born in 2007 and Basili who was born in 2009. He has been serving the parish of St. Demetrios as assistant priest since his ordination to the priesthood in May of 2007.
