Rev. Apostolos N. Georgiafentis, Protopresbyter
Father Apostolos N. Georgiafentis was born in Chicago to the Archon Protopsalti (Chief Chanter) Nicolaos and Katherine Georgiafentis. As a teenager, Fr. Apostolos spent most of histime persuing his love for Byzantine music, which he learned to love from his father. At the age of fifteen he received his first assignment as Chanter Of Holy Apostoles Church in Westchester, Illinois.
After graduating from high school, Fr. Apostolos attended the University Of Illinois for one year when, moved by the Holy Spirit, he began his studies for the priesthood at Hellenic College in Brookline, MA, from where he received his Bachelor Of Arts degree in 1986. During his studies at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, from where he graduated with a Masters Of Divinity degree in 1980. During his studies, Fr. Apostolos received advanced instruction in Byzantine Music from Professor Sava J. Sava & Fr. Nicholas Kastanas. He also tutored Byzantine Music classes for theological students.
On January 15, 1989, Fr. Apostolos was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago at the Assumption Church in Chicago, and assigned as the associate pastor to the Holy Apostoles Church in Westchester, Il. In June of 1994 he was assigned as pastor to the parish of Saint Barbara in Toms River, NJ. On October 7, 1996 Fr. Apostolos was assigned to the parish of Saint Demetrios in Chicago.
Father is also a recipient of "The 2008 Most Distinguished Greek Amercian Award in the Field of Religion", recognized by the United Helenic Voters of America. Father Apostolos and Presbytera Sophia have three beautiful children, Presvytera Katerina who is married to Father Stamatios Sfikas of Annunciation Cathedral, Nicholas and Anastasios.
Rev. Christos R. Mihalopoulos
Father Christos is married to Presvytera Antonia (Toni) Mihalopoulos (Poteres), who is the daughter of Father Theodore Poteres & Presvytera Eustathia (Tulla) Poteres of Sts. Constantine & Helen Cathedral, in Merriville, IN. They have two sons, Luke and Theodore Mihalopoulos.
Father Christos graduated in May of 2013 with a Masters of Divinity from Holy Cross School of Theology in Brookline, MA. His undergraduate work was accomplished by graduating with two majors, one in history and the other in psychology at the University of Illinois.
He recently served as a pastoral assistant for the parish of Saint Nectarios in Palatine, IL. Father Christos was ordained to the Holy Diaconate on March 16th, 2014 by His Grace Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos at the parish of Saint Spyridon in Palos Heights. Il. Father was ordained at our beloved Church on Sunday, September 28th, 2014 by His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago.
